Affordable Quality Translation – Think Outside The Box

Affordable Quality Translation – Think Outside The Box

When you think of affordable the first thing that comes to mind might be “cheap.” But can “cheap” actually end up costing you more? If you look at “affordable healthcare,” the deduction plan is normally so high that you hope you don’t ever get sick. So remember to always think outside the box when you see the term “affordable.”

You have content that needs to be translated, and you have two quotes from perspective translators. One is lower than the other. So which quote would you pick? The more “affordable” one?

Affordable quality translation might not always be what you think. Have you ever thought about what happens after you have sent out a project request? You hope that your translator or translation team can deliver quality work on time.

A sophisticated process should look something like this. This process likely takes place with a company that has teams of linguists.

  1. A job gets assigned to a translator.
  2. After the translation is complete, it is sent to a reviewer.
  3. After the revision is done, it gets finalized and sent back to the translator to perform proofreading.
  4. The proofread file gets sent back to the project team to do QA.
  5. The final file is sent to the client.

You might think this is probably less affordable than hiring a freelancer who will do everything from translating, reviewing, to proofreading him/herself. Think again, it’s always good to have more than one set of eyes when it comes to translation or even writing in the same language. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t ever rely on freelance translators. Those translators are great too, but you have to find a great one for your project! One that has pride in their work and really spends time reviewing and proofreading their work. Don’t always go with the cheapest or most “affordable.”

Cheaper is not always better!
